Olympiacos Chicago Announces Summer Camps

Written by

Registration is now open for the club’s Youth Travel Soccer, Thrylos Tots and Summer Camp programs in the Niles and Naperville suburbs. Olympiacos Chicago will offer summer camps for players 3 to 13 years of age that are either new to the game or have been playing soccer for some time. The camps will be held at the club’s Niles and Naperville locations.

The 13th District AHEPA committee and athletic director Chris Atsaves did it again. For the second consecutive year, they attracted a record number of student-athletes (120) at the 46th annual AHEPA Sports Awards & Scholarship Banquet, held June 7 at the Fountain Blue in Des Plaines, Illinois.

Spetses has always been an interesting blend of cosmopolitan lifestyle and strong naval tradition. Spetses Classic Yacht Race 2013, which took place on the island from June 13 to 16, was a unique opportunity to experience this distinct character in all its grandeur. A fleet of 65 wooden sailboats, of all different sizes, shapes and types of sails, with crews from several continents, marked their course on the Saronic Gulf, swishing through the waves. Among them, ex-king Konstantinos’ Afroessa, captained by Olympics champion Sofia Bekatorou, Ai Giorgis with the “Freedom or Death” motto stamped on its sails and winning Alexandra of Corfu.

On May 24-26, nearly 2,000 youngsters representing, a record, thirty-seven parishes, ages 7-18 participated in the 32nd Annual Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago Junior Olympics.  Parishes from Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Missouri, Iowa, and Minnesota were all represented during this event of Christian Athletic Fellowship.

ATHENS (AP)— Defender Avraam Papadopoulos has been dropped from Greece's national team due to lingering injury problems ahead of a June 7 World Cup qualifier against Lithuania. Greece coach Fernando Santos said Friday that the 28-year-old Olympiakos central defender would likely be replaced by an experienced teammate like Costas Katsouranis or Loukas Vyntra, while the side is set to be dominated by overseas players spared from Greece's grueling annual league playoffs.
