IOCC Responds To Victims Of Oklahoma City Tornadoes

As survivors sift through the devastation left behind by tornadoes that ripped through Oklahoma City and claimed the lives of 24 people, nine of them children, please join IOCC in praying for the families and lost loved ones. IOCC has been in contact with the Orthodox community in the Oklahoma City area as well as its ecumenical partners and is assessing the emerging needs for an appropriate response.

Greek beach evacuated after artillery discovery

ATHENS (AP)— A surprise shell has caused a big stir at a popular Athens beach. Greek authorities evacuated the seafront Monday after a swimmer found a corroded artillery shell just 10 yards from dry land, fished it out and presented it to a lifeguard.

On May 11, 2013, the 22nd annual Hellenic Times Scholarship Fund (HTSF) GALA was held at the Marriott Marquis in New York City. As of today, the HTSF has awarded over 850 scholarships totaling over $2 million.

Russian warships arriving in Cyprus

BEIRUT (AP) —Rights activists visiting abandoned government prisons in the first Syrian city to come under rebel control have found torture devices and other evidence that detainees were abused there, Human Rights Watch said in a report Friday. Raqqa, in eastern Syria, was overrun in late February by rebels fighting to topple President Bashar Assad. The rebels facilitated the New York-based group's access to facilities that had belonged to a government security agency and military intelligence in late April.

WASHINGTON (AP)— President Barack Obama said Thursday that the U.S. and Turkey will keep ramping up pressure to oust Syrian President Bashar Assad from power, but there's "no magic formula'' to stop his violence. At a news conference with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the White House Rose Garden, Obama says the only way to resolve the crisis is for Assad to hand over power to a transitional government.

ANKARA  (AP)—Four more people have been detained in connection with two car bomb attacks that killed dozens in a Turkish town near the Syrian border, bringing the number of suspects in custody to 13, Turkey's prime minister said Tuesday.

CHICAGO---On April 22, approximately 250,000 people across the country hit the streets for the inaugural Million March Against Child Abuse. Child advocates gathered in peaceful walks, to be a voice for children, and also to educate and inform the public about all forms of child abuse, in hopes to one day eradicate it, once and for all.
