Security tight for Greek Independence Day parades

ATHENS, Greece (AP)—Authorities in Greece are implementing massive security measures for fear that anti-austerity protests could disrupt national parades to mark Greek Independence Day this weekend.

  • The parade yesterday in Athens was certainly unprecedented. Never before in Greek history has parade taken place under such circumstances. Basically the entire Syndagma & downtown area was closed to spectators. Access around Syndagma was not "restricted" it was completely closed to the public. The "spectators" in front of Syndagma were plainclothes police and their families who were allowed in by invitation only. Let freedom ring....
