Secretary of State Attends The Special Birthday Bash

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White was among the special guests invited to the milestone birthday celebration for three centenarians at the Greek American Rehabilitation and Care Centre on Friday, February 15th.

Wheeling, Ill.--The second floor activity room at the Greek American Rehabilitation and Care Centre was filled with well-wishers and family members of the “three birthday girls.”  The honorees are Diamanto Sakellariou who turned 103 years of age, Agnes Ehrhardt who turned 101 years old, and Katherine Diamantes who turned 100 years of age.

In his remarks, Secretary White exclaimed, “Imagine all that they have seen in their lifetime. They are an inspiration to us all.”

Each of the honorees were adorned with birthday crowns as queens for the momentous day. While family and friends armed with cameras, tablets, and smart phones snapped countless photos of the three centenarians.

In addition to his kind words, Secretary White also presented the three with commemorative plagues that recognized their remarkable longevity as well as their contributions as citizens of Illinois.

Secretary White noted that, “Not only do they each share their birthdays on the same day but these three proud women also live in the same great facility, the Greek American Rehab and Care Centre.”

With many of the board members and staff looking on, Secretary White also presented “The 2013 Commitment to Community Award” to the Greek American Rehabilitation and Care Center for its ongoing commitment to helping people in need with its state-of-the-art skilled nursing and rehab care.

The special celebration rolled on with lots of great food and of course three special birthday cakes for “the three birthday girls,”  Diamanto, Agnes and Katherine, who made Secretary White commit to coming back to celebrate with them next year.
