National Parks Week is April 21 to 29 and the National Park Service is celebrating by granting free admission to all 397 national parks.
This is a week that every American who lives near a national park should take advantage of. The U.S. National Parks are an environmental treasure that needs to be celebrated, advanced, and enlarged. As our country’s population continues to grow, we need a new initiative to set more of the federal lands aside for future generations to enjoy. Open unencumbered landscapes are important for maintaining natural bio systems in our country. They allow our indigenous wildlife to remain intact and prosper, and they provide a rich array of flora that is important to the health and welfare of this country. The number of people using our national parks system continues to grow year in and year out. The physical human pressure on these systems cannot be ignored, and by creating more open space for flora and fauna, ensures that future generations of Americans can enjoy these natural treasurers. The awe and beauty of our national parks are second to none. They are what continues to inspire us as a nation, and keeps alive the American ideal of preservation and exploration.
