Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew attended the enthronement ceremony of the new Pope Francis I yesterday at the Vatican. This was the first time since the Great Schism between the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church in 1054, that an Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople attended a papal enthronement. During the inaugural mass in St Peter’s Square, the Gospel was chanted in Greek rather than the traditional Latin.

Following the Pope’s enthronement, the two religious leaders had a cordial meeting, conveying a message of consolidation of the dialogue between the two Sister Churches.

Greece was represented at the inauguration of Pope Francis I by Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos.

Q&A with Dr. Vicki Anton-Athens

This week, we caught up with Dr. Vicki Anton-Athens, a podiatrist, mom, photographer and missionary, dedicated to making life better for orphans in Guatemala.

Youth from throughout the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago gathered on April 21, 2012, to celebrate and participate in the Saint John Chrysostom Oratorical and Fine Arts Festival.  With the blessings of His Eminence Metropolitan Iakovos, the event was held on Bright Saturday and was graciously hosted by the community of Saint Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church in Aurora, Ill.
